Three days before she would stand before the world and win the Academy Award for Best Actress (you do realize this was her first film, right?), the Yale graduate stood before a room full of accomplished women and accepted the Best Breakthrough Performance award at the seventh Annual Black Women in Hollywood luncheon.
There, in Beverly Hills, the Mexican born, Kenyan raised 31-year old actress took to the podium to address a letter she'd received from a fan -- an African American woman -- that struck a whole lot of chords.
